About
Avery Slezak is an illustrator, book artist, paper engineer, and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She makes bold and graphic illustrations, zines, artist books, and pop-up books that often focus on absurdism, spirituality, and climate change among other things.
She is also a co-founder and manager of super professional press, an independent risograph printing collective that has recently exhibited at the Tokyo Art Book Fair, Staple and Stitch Chicago Art Book Fair, Jersey Art Book Fair, and the East Village Zine Fair. She has also tabled independently at the Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase and RISO Expo Philly.
You may have also encountered her work at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Pratt Institute Library Zine Collection, Pace University Zine Library, Baylor University Book Arts Collection, UNC Greensboro Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collection, or Desert Island Comics. Her work has also been recognized by the Society of Publication Designers, Handsome Frank, and Creative Quarterly.
Avery went to Pratt Institute and received her BFA in Communications Design with an emphasis in Illustration and a minor in Book Arts. As a student she was awarded the Thomas Schutte Senior Leadership Award, Student Worker of the Year, SOD Academic Achievement Award, and the SOD Change Agent/Activism Social Justice Award.
